Chiang Mai Metropolitan Area

The Chiang Mai Metropolitan Area (Thai: เขตนครเชียงใหม่และปริมณฑล) is the urban sprawl of the twin cities of city of Chiang Mai and town of Lamphun. It has an area of around 2,905.13 km² in 2 Province, 2,302.88 km² in Chiang Mai and 602.25 km² in Lamphun. There are 1,099,473 inhabitants in the metropolitan area. The population density is 378.46 inh/km². Compared with combined area of the two province as 24,612.90 km², 2,071,294 inhabitants and 84.15 inh/km² density. The metropolitan area cover 11.80% of whole area and 45.46% of whole population.

The Metropolitan Area of Chiang Mai is located within the 8 inner amphoe (districts) of Chiang Mai province and 2 districts in Lamphun Province, northern Thailand. It has 1 City municipality, 2 town municipalities and 45 township municipalities.
